Overview

Located in the heart of Brooklyn at 1639 Bedford Ave, Hafiya Restaurant offers an authentic taste of West African and Caribbean cuisine. This casual spot draws a diverse crowd looking for hearty, flavorful dishes served with warmth and efficiency. The ambiance is simple yet welcoming, though some diners note that seating can feel limited during busy times. It’s a great place for both solo visits and small groups seeking a genuine cultural dining experience.

The menu features standout items like the rich and aromatic Chicken Biryani, perfectly spiced and layered with tender meat and fragrant rice. The Green Bean dish is a fresh, vibrant side that complements the mains well, merging traditional West African flavors with seasonal vegetables. A surprising highlight is their homemade Cornbread, which adds a comforting Caribbean touch that delights regulars and newcomers alike.

Visitors appreciate the balance of taste and value. Customers often praise the freshness of the ingredients and the generous portions. Vanessa Baskin’s experience reflects this sentiment; she notes how the meal was so satisfying it could have served two, with her fresh juice pairing enhancing the overall enjoyment. The ginger drink receives special mention for its invigorating flavor — a perfect counterpart to the hearty foods.

Service at Hafiya is consistently described as friendly and attentive. David M highlights the attentive staff and well-portioned offerings, while Austin Tannenbaum points to the healthy options and buffet-style convenience that add to the approachable vibe of the restaurant. Brian Homeward, bringing a Caribbean perspective, endorses the authenticity and quality of the Caribbean dishes, adding credibility to the place’s culinary roots.

I would post a picture but I ate my entire platter (2 people could've shared that but I ate all of it). Everything was delicious- it looks like they had not so great reviews a few months ago but maybe they fixed the issue because my meal and fresh juice was fantastic, especially for the price.

Authentic African dishes. Customer service is ok; the young lady took the time to describe the dishes. Pretty worth it for the price and lots of variety. Cleanliness could be better.
